526th Balloon Sculpture, Winter Solstice Fairy

526th Balloon Sculpture, Winter Solstice Fairy

Well, it is that time of year again. The Winter Solstice is almost here! It is a time for reflecting on light.

I came up with this idea to make a  winter fairy who would be a bringer of light. The photos don’t do this piece justice, it is soooo much cooler in person.

This is a Patricia Balloona original design. 🙂 I drew the eyes on paper and then cut the eyes out and taped it to the balloon as I was afraid to take the chance as I am a bit rusty on drawing faces on balloons, it has been a while.

A friend of mine introduced me to Fairy Lights and of course I had to implement it with my balloon work. I think I did something pretty innovative for wings. I put the fairy in fairy lights son!

Hope you like it and find this idea inspiring. I did a bit a mixed of media with feathers and lights and I really love how she came out! I also really love the way the flower came out. It is my take on an Iris flower.

I originally made the skirt one way and then went back and made it a little fuller. Not sure which I like better. Pics of both included. You be the decider. 🙂

Happy Twisting!

4th Balloon Sculpting Anniversary

Hello folks!

Well Sept 27th 2016 made for my 4th year balloon sculpting anniversary.

I am finally at a point where I can get back to normal life and I feel ready to get back into balloon art. Yes there will be a 5th year!

A lot has happened this past year. I got to go to Belgium and attend my first ever balloon convention at The Millenium Jam. I got to meet and hangout with Addi Somekh for a little bit. I actually flew on a plane across an ocean which was a huge deal for me! I discovered that I had been severely and dangerously sleep deprived for several years and have sleep apnea and got a cpap machine. I was at the point where my body was freaking out and I was having uncontrollable anxiety attacks that felt like heart attacks that caused me to faint.

In the summer my mother died and I found out she was NPD, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and had used her daughters for money and pitted us against each other and that basically everything she ever told me and them was a lie. That was pretty damn hard to process let me tell you. I saw a lot of messed up stuff in the end of her life unfold, stuff right out of a most bizarre Lifetime movie. I have been studying about the sickness and reading books on how to process and cope with being a survivor of an NPD parent and how to not pass on NDP damages to your child.

My husband and I celebrated our 14th anniversary, he is the love of my life. He and my daughter are my world. I turned 34 and I also got a hospitality pass to my city and got to go to all my city’s attractions for free with friends and family. We did just about every single thing on the list. Talk about eventful!

I dabbled and discovered some other arts and found that I took to them like water as well.

Here is some jewelry I made recently. I made the ocean wave pendant that was a total awesome fluke with how great it turned out and came up with the snail pendant, an original Patricia Gordon design, and turned them into necklaces as well and I made beaded bracelets. Design of the bracelet is Jill Wiseman, the bracelets below are my replications of her design and the colors I chose. I also made a clay sculpture of my original balloon fox.

There is a whole world of wonder all around us! So many things to try, appreciate, share and experience.

I suck at tons of things and barely qualify to be an adult, lol. but I can be creative and I can make things that are beautiful. God has given us all gifts and abilities and they were meant to make each other lives more beautiful and help each other.

And now here is a video of my 4th year balloon twisting anniversary. I only made 14 pieces but they were original pieces, some with accents of other’s designs but overall original pieces.

Happy Twisting!

515th Balloon Sculpture, Majestic Fish Bouquet

515th Balloon Sculpture, Majestic Fish Bouquet

Don’t even ask me how I managed to make this because it is all a blur and it was serendipity, lol.

I was actually trying to making something completely different but this just emerged.

This is a Patricia Balloona original design.

This is my first attempt at a star weave and it ended up cone shaped completely by accident. I don’t know that I could ever do that again on purpose, lol.

I wasn’t sure what to do with the coned star weave but then it just hit me, this would make a nice fish.

I don’t know if I am the first to double stuff balloons with ribbons inside but I got inspired to do that and it was original to me.

I decided to use a jewel I had found around the house for the eye and it really adds great drama. My fish head is quite different as well and it was a flash of insight at the last minute.

Everything just started to come together in my head in a rush. This was a very go with the flow project for me and this piece just wanted to emerge.

I absolutely love my fish and I love how everything came together and I am in shock. It really felt like an out of body experience and the whole process was so creatively magical.

This piece stands at about 4 ft. tall if not more. My lovely daughter modeling with it below.

Hope you like it and find some inspiration and Happy Twisting!

Picture below was without finished touches. I added a few more spiky things on the top and the bottom and I feel that really finished the piece. My adorable daughter modeling with it below.

514th Balloon Sculpture, Big Bloom Bouquet

I just created this and am very proud of it. This is a Patricia Balloona original.

Something about the color combo just makes me feel so peaceful and like I am breathing in color and vibrancy.

I hope you like it and Happy Twisting!

The Four Seasons of My Tree of Life in the World Egg

I decided to make a collage so that all four of the seasons of my Tree of Life in the World Egg pieces could be together. I feel like I am coming into my own more and more as an artist and am developing my voice. This is what I am thinking about, this is what is important and beautiful to me and this says something about my person.

I am very fascinated and drawn to these archetypes right now especially. Here is some backstory and what these archetypal symbols of the Tree of Life and World Egg represent.

“The shell of the cosmic egg is the world frame of space, while the fertile seed-power within typifies the inexhaustible life-dynamism of nature.”

Joseph Campbell

“The world egg, cosmic egg or mundane egg is a mythological motif found in the creation myths of many cultures and civilizations. Typically, the world egg is a beginning of some sort, and the universe or some primordial being comes into existence by “hatching” from the egg, sometimes lain on the primordial waters of the Earth.”

“The meaning of life is not to be discovered only after death in some hidden, mysterious realm; on the contrary, it can be found by eating the succulent fruit of the Tree of Life and by living in the here and now as fully and creatively as we can.”

Paul Kurtz

“Ancient cosmologies tell of a magnificent World-Tree that grows at the centre of the universe and encompasses all realms of existence: its stem pierces through the world of human affairs, its branches reach high up to the domain of the Gods, upholding the firmament of the heavens and all the stars and planets, while its roots stretch far down into the dark, chthonic Underworld, forming a gateway to the realm of the dead. The image of the World-Tree or Tree of Life is truly universal. It can be found at the centre of archaic cosmological iconography in widely separated cultures all over the world.”

511th Balloon Sculpture, Turkish Tile Inspired Flower Bouquet

I had a really lovely thing happen recently where my daughter and I bought some toys and this really kind Turkish man was very generous and gave Natalie an extra toy for free as well as a keychain for both her and me. The key chains he was very proud of and they were beaded art key chains from his native country, Turkey.

He loved seeing my daughter so excited and happy and just had such a beautiful and kind heart. He has daughters of his own not much older than Natalie. It made him so happy to see her happy and so excited about the things he threw in. It wasn’t getting things for free that made the moment, it was seeing how much joy he had in giving and I hadn’t seen joy to that degree in a long while.

One of the many things I love about my daughter is how very appreciative she is about gifts. She is so fun to give to because she really appreciates them so much and is so thankful and takes such excellent care with all her things. She gave him a great big hug and asked me to take her picture with him so she could always remember him.

I was just blown away by how much this man loved seeing people happy and had such tremendous inner joy that just beamed out of him. The whole thing was so beautiful and I had been feeling very sad lately so it really rekindled the Christmas spirit for me.

I believe in repaying kindness with kindness and decided to surprise him with a beautiful balloon. I looked up Turkish art and came across some very beautiful Turkish tile art and used that as inspiration. It blew me away and I noticed a very striking color combination that seems to be very common and popular there and used that for the piece I made for him.

I wanted it to be special and tailor made just for him.

This is what I came up with as a result. I surprised him with it and I don’t know that he even remembers who I am as I didn’t have my daughter with me and he sees hundreds of people every day, lol. He was just ecstatic and thrilled! I loved seeing people’s faces as I brought it to him, everyone was oohing and awing and wondering who that was for.

He must have given me a thousand hugs, lol.

This made my day and made me feel so happy. Kindness matters so very much. It is what makes the world a place worth living. Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see. Mark Twain
