What is this blog about and who the heck are you?

I am so glad you asked!

I have been bitten by the bug of balloon sculpting and fell madly in love with it. My name is Patricia Gordon and I started balloon sculpting Sept 27th 2012. Since then I have been constantly learning something new and plan on continuing to do so for the rest of my life.

I have decided to make a blog about it and chronicle the adventures this passion will take me. I am sharing what I am learning about balloon sculpting and this is a show and tell of what I have made and how I am progressing, growing, evolving as a balloon sculptor.

I am a homemaker.  I just by chance and by whim came across my 4-year-old watching a program where a man was making a balloon lion for kids and instantly thought as Liz Lemon puts it,” I want to go to there!”

My number 1 balloon hero is Addi Somekh, to see my post about him click the link below,

I also did some Stand Up Comedy, here is my routine. I plan or doing more comedy when my daughter is older. I am clean and quirky.

My Balloon Philosophy

I want to show that balloon art is just as impactful and amazing and serious as any other art medium. I believe that balloons are for everyone, not just children, but the inner child in all of us that can experience awe and wonder with joyfulness. I strive to make pieces that have a soul.

  1. Patricia – do you have your CBA? If so, was it super scary to take the test? You said in your latest post you like to figure things out on your own time rather than having to do something “in the next five minutes”. I’m terrified of taking the final test. I actually still have the photos and final pre-test – but those don’t scare me. It is making something right there for them with supplies they provide that freaks me out. :-0

    • No, I don’t have my CBA yet. I have major test anxiety so I am dragging my feet, lol. It is nice to know I am not alone with being scared of that part of the test, lol. We’ll have to just encourage each other. 🙂

  2. Do you inflate the balloons with an air pump or do you blow them up with the air in your lungs? I love balloons and I wish I had your balloon artist’s talent. You are awesome.

    • Aw, you are very kind thank you. I use an air pump, both a manual hand pump for the long balloons and an electric hand pump for the 9 inch and up round balloons. I can blow them up with my lungs but goodness gracious it sure takes everything out of me,lol. I really rely on my pumps, lol.

      • Lol, thank you for your reply. Blowing balloons can be exhausting but it gives your lungs a good workout lol. BTW, is there a way for me to message you and back without cluttering the comment section on your site because I admire you for your balloon artist talent and kindness. I am autistic and I find your blog to be inspiring. I view you as role model and I would like to get to know you better. Please :,)

  3. Have you thought about making a separate business section as part of your blog? I am on http://www.aaamazingfaces.weebly.com, which is currently under construction, if you want to see what I mean. I think you would be AWESOME at Henna tattoos! It is so easy to get started. Maybe even face painting? I know balloons are my first love, but I am currently learning Henna, face painting, and glitter tattoos for parties too! WHo knows? I liked your bag designs so I think Henna may be right up your alley, if you havn’t tried it yet, which I wouldn’t be surprised if you have. HA HA 🙂 Again, that EXTERMINATE! costume was such a huge milestone. It actually put you on the level of artistic genius, in my eyes. The picnic basket was the first hint. Your costume confirms my suspicions.

    • Very cool dude! I love the Phoenix and what you did with its hair, lol. Very cool business page.

I will have to look into it for sure and that is an excellent suggestion.

Your page looks awesome, and glitter tattoos, ooh , everything is so much better with glitter! I have never before seen that!

I love henna! I have only messed with it personally once. It would be for my enjoyment only, lol.

Very nice top hat too! and of course your rainbow hat is killer!

You are kind of like my pen pal, I am so glad to have met you, albeit through blog format, lol.

      • I really want you to see my balloon delivery page when it is up. That is where I get to put the good stuff lol. When you are doing the line work I’ve been doing, each design has to be done in 3-5 minutes timed with perfect dimensions, so that is why my menu didn’t have any elaborate stuff except on the front page. I’ll let you know when the page is up so I can show you some things I’ve made. Thanks! TTYL!!

      • I do intend on making a Yoda parody tutorial definitely in Feb. Not sure if I will have an updated body or not by then but definitely the head. Depends on time and how juggling other projects go. Rest assured you will be the first to know. 🙂

      • No I haven’t gotten that far yet, lol. I am nervous about it because well I envision this happening, lol.

  4. Do you ever even advertise your blog at events by giving out the address or ever ask your friends to put it on their facebooks or anything? I can’t help but think a lot of people are missing out!

    • I have my blog site on my business cards and I have tried posting it on FB to show my friends but few friends actually check it out, lol. Aww, thanks. I am glad you like it.

  5. PHEW, boy oh boy, I just finished the most ridiculous design I have ever learned. If you ever want a super challenge, check out Felix Yoldi again and his giant scorpion!!! I’m sure you’ll get it faster than I did, it took me a couple hours to make perfectly.

  6. This is a lovely site you have here. You got very good, very fast. I wish you all the best in your continued success! I’m still chuckling over your reply to Mr. Fudge (Wayne’s World) Ha Ha 🙂 There is this crazy DVD I just ordered that teaches how to make life-size balloon princesses. It was 50 bucks, but it looks really in-depth. I look forward to following your journey 🙂 -Sage
