454th, 455th, 456th, 457nth, 458th Balloon Sculptures, Mario Stage Wall

454th, 455th, 456th, 457nth, 458th Balloon Sculptures, Mario Stage Wall

Well folks, of all the things I have made thus far, I have to say this is the one of which I am most proud. I made this for a Sci-Fi/Fantasy convention here in my city called Con Nooga as simply Fan Art. It was something I wanted to make and had plans for for a long time now, I just needed the right place to display it. When I heard Con Nooga was coming up, I asked them if I could display my art there.

This is my first wall. I first had to figure out the wall pattern. This may look simple but it took a lot of time figuring out.

I used paper and learned how to do this via Sue Bowler on her Blog- she talks about the different wall options and also had the paper I used to map out my design,

I realized that I could get the clean edges I wanted by simply rotating the paper design for the Duplet Square Wall Pack.

So designing is one thing- then comes the actual building. Since I am so much faster blowing up 5 inch rounds myself without a pump, that’s what I did. I blew up 1,508 balloons single handedly and with my own lungs.

There was a snow storm that hit- and for fear that my set up time would be canceled or delayed I blew up all the balloons at my house and also made the garlands. Then it luckily melted enough to go set up, so I packed all of the garlands up in my van and made it work- I was able to fit everything and make just one trip. Miracles do happen! LOL!

I assembled everything at the Con and managed to even make the wall freestanding and I even did that all on my own. It is secured and will not fall but it is also not attached to the wall behind it. Figuring that all out was a doozy in itself and I am really quite proud of that accomplishment.

I think I have made a very innovative application for the pinch line technique and I believe I am the only person to ever make figures completely by this technique. I made Inky the Pac-man Ghost before doing this and so how I could not help but use it to make 8 bit Mario come alive. I looked online for 8 bit pictures to use as reference.

Everything on this wall and the wall itself are Patricia Balloona original balloonification designs. The content itself is not original but the way they have been translated into balloon form is. I had to make 5 things here that I have never made before in the fashions that they are made.

I had two days to make and set up everything and let me tell you- it is a ton of work. Way more than I thought. Of course this was my first wall- there were a lot of things that I discovered making this and talk about a feeling of leveling up, this was my leveling up for sure! The next one would be faster because now I know what I am in for and all the unexpected problem solving.

I did all of it on my own and it boosted my confidence because there were so many things I had to figure out and so much problem solving and it is daunting when you are doing something totally new and are all alone.

I had to be totally done by 11 a.m. on Friday and I finished at 10 and took pictures until 11,lol. I started working on it and the figures at 1 a.m. Thursday so that it would last the weekend of the Con and be in as mint of condition as possible. I did not get very much sleep, lol.

I had another project to work on simultaneously to add another level of challenge. It was like playing a game you have never played before on the hardest mode possible, lol.

I wasn’t afraid to just jump in and see what happens. I wasn’t afraid to fail and that made everything so liberating.

So here you have it, here is a generic Super Mario Bros. Video Game Scene.

I am a gamer myself and I love Mario. My family plays games together all the time. We are very much video game geeks.

Hope you like it- it was such a huge labor and a labor of love. 🙂

Here is Ben who is 6 ft 2 inches tall standing next to the wall for size reference.

453rd Balloon Sculpture, DjeTa Butterfly

My friend Tatyana DjeTa Lyashko is a genius. I love her work and she is a huge hero of mine. She is from Russia. I have noticed that most of my balloon heroes are Russian, lol. There is a special balloon magic in the air there man.

I saw a picture she posted of her pink and black butterfly and I just had to replicate it. I was able to figure things out and I made the middle of the butterfly bigger- though I think hers was maybe a little too small and I think mine came out a little too big, I think in between would be perfect personally. My focus was more on figuring out the wings. Next time it will be one both wings and body.

I also made it black rather than pink in the middle and I think that makes it look more realistic and I think it makes the wings “pop” more.

She has informed me that she will be coming out with a tutorial for it soon, so that will be exciting.

Below is my emulation of her amazing butterfly design. My daughter modeling with it below to give size reference.

452nd Balloon Sculpture, Heart Flowers in Vase

This is my emulation of an awesome piece made by a wonderful balloon artist named Sergei Borisenko from Russia.

I saw a picture of his heart flowers in a vase and I just loved it and wanted to try to see if I could make one as well.

I need to use a bigger balloon for the middle next time and the proportions are just a little off but I learned a lot with this. The trickiest part in my opinion is getting the flowers in the desired position and learning how to situate them.

I gave it to my B.F.F. Lisa for Valentine’s Day. 🙂

She loved it which was the point of the piece and made me so happy!

451st Balloon Sculpture, Jumbo Valentine Monkey

I made this Monkey Jumbo as a big Valentine for my kiddo’s 1st grade teacher.

We are so blessed to have such a wonderful teacher for my daughter. She is beyond amazing and we just love her. My daughter’s Kindergarten teacher was awesome and we loved her as well. I really love my kiddo’s school. They are amazing.

Her teacher loved it as well as her classmates. I brought it in for her Valentine’s Day party and made balloons for her class as well.

It was a huge hit!

I used a Nifty Balloons Monkey mask design and a Nifty Balloons monkey jumbo body design. Ironically I don’t like their Jumbo Monkey head design, the monkey mask is much better. I added a heart and I tried out a different column approach and loved it and I look forward to using it more in the future.

450th Balloon Sculpture, Aquarius Zodiac Sign

I have been working on the Aquarius. Zodiac today.

There is a cool mythology behind the sign. The story behind Aquarius is as follows.

A young man named Ganymede struck Zeus’s fancy so much that he kidnapped him and took him to Mount Olympus and made him his cup-bearer.

One day Ganymede has had enough, and he decides to pour out all of the wine, ambrosia, and water of the gods, refusing to stay Zeus’s cup bearer any longer. The legend goes that the water all fell to Earth, causing inundating rains for days upon days, which created a massive flood that flooded the entire world.

I have made Ganymede up in the clouds of Mount Olympus bearing Zeus’s cup and pouring out the contents onto the Earth below.

I like how so far my two Zodiac signs have a mystical hauntingness about them. I had this concept art in my head for a while and it is nice to be able to manifest it into reality. My Ganymede has a Buddha like quality here.

I have been holding onto this Earth balloon for a year now just waiting for the right project.

The neck popped on me and I had some issues with that area- I will need to experiment more and perfect getting that area to work better with this kind of a head design.  I came up with a new approach to the eyes and lids and did a lot of experimenting with this piece in general.

The placement of hands and getting the cup situated was quite a challenge and I really love how it all turned out. I spent a good amount of time just getting everything to stay and in the angle I wanted it to stay.

448th Balloon Sculpture, Castle Arch and Giant Snowflakes

448th Balloon Sculpture, Castle Arch and Giant Snowflakes

I made this décor recently for a Daddy/Daughter Date Night event at the Brainerd Village Chick-fil-A .

I made a castle like arch and made a replication of a Michael Floyd snowman design and I made a moose that was inspired by Rob Driscoll. This was my first experimentation with a castle like arch.

I added some little snowflakes, though I would add more next time.

I also made some more large Michael Gjerek style snowflakes. I really love how the main silver ones came out!

The little girls and their dads got their picture taken with the arch and I also made balloon entertainment for everyone while they were seated at their tables.

My daughter and husband got to go and they just had such a magical time!

Hope you like it. It was a huge hit!

Happy Twisting 🙂
