2nd Year Balloon Evolution

Standard

Here is a short video collage of all the balloons I made in my 2nd year of balloon twisting.

I have great big plans for my 2014 and 2015 3rd year run!

401st Balloon Scultpure, Twilight Sparkle Equestria Girl.

Standard

We went to see Rainbow Rocks today, the sequel to Equestria Girls and what kind of mother would I be if I didn’t make my own kid something awesome to celebrate?!

The movie was okay but no where near as good as Equestria Girls. My husband and I both teared up at the first one and was very pleasantly surprised at its awesomeness. I still prefer My Little Pony regular where it is all ponies but I was very pleased with how they did the Equestria Girls.

My daughter’s favorite character is Twilight Sparkle so I made her the Equestria Girl version.

She loves it and it feels nice to be able to do nice and celebratory things for her. I need to make more balloons special just for her.

400nth Balloon Sculpture, 6 ft Pink Elephant

Standard

So today is my 2 year balloon twisting anniversary! I made my first balloon animals September 27th 2012.

My balloon twisting origin story here, https://patriciaballoona.wordpress.com/2013/03/25/kismet-and-eudaimonia-how-i-got-into-balloon-twisting/.

I had something huge planned to celebrate but it is going to have to wait until October for reasons to be revealed later. Just know that I have plans to make my biggest balloon sculpture to date in a few weeks from now!

I decided to make a Nifty Balloons 6 ft. tall Elephant only in pink. I combined what I learned from their Masks tutorial package and also their Jumbos tutorial package and combined the two. They actually have a picture of a Jumbo Elephant as it were on their Facebook page and they had it standing on top of a ball which is totally different than their tutorials and they do not show you how to do.

I took it upon myself to recreate only with my own flavoring their Jumbo Elephant.

I did my ears differently than they did on their picture and made it pink. I also added feathers to the top of the head and also used black feathers for eyelashes.

I made it holding an umbrella like they did as well.

Putting it on the ball was pretty tricky I will warn you, lol. I drew stars on the ball and it really added a lot, it definitely needed something.

My version below.

399nth Balloon Sculpture, Hello Kitty Bubble Gum Machine

Standard

I saw a bubble gum machine somewhere online that was red and loved it and decided to  replicate it with a few Patricia Balloona touches to it.

I had the idea to put a mylar inside as I have personally had a Hello Kitty gumball machine before and it had a big plastic Hello Kitty in the center of it.  I wanted to recreate that look. I put a small mylar Hello Kitty inside a large clear round and also put some pink, white and pearl pink small rounds in there as well to be the gumballs.

Because this is experimentation, I was afraid to blow up the clear round beyond a certain point as I wanted to make sure there was definitely something to take pictures of,lol. Next time I will see how much bigger I can go and make sure I have extra large clear rounds with which to be able to sacrifice to find that max limit.

I have minor tweaks I will make for the next round but overall I am pretty pleased with the outcome and design.

Adventure Time Board

Standard

And now for something completely different. I am on the PTA at my kid’s school and the PTA president asked me to decorate the PTA board at school. He said I could do anything I wanted as long as it was school appropriate.

My whole family and I are really into Adventure Time and so I decided to make an Adventure Time theme and adapt it for school. I redubbed it- LEARNING TIME with a pencil through the time instead of the sword.

I free hand drew the characters while looking at pictures for references onto construction paper and I then layered the construction paper to have a kind of South Park like style.

I also added in some elements from the school life for kids into the board. For example, LSP makes a joke about purple not being on the behavior color code. Lady Rainicorn has a blue folder which every kids at school has that they take homework and things for parents in everyday. Names of classes are next to characters. Ice King is teaching about the properties of ice.

I am just in love with how this came out and had to share it here.

I have been fantasizing about making a mural for my daughter in her room and this gave me the confidence to really start considering that. I would like to repaint her room and make an Adventure Time mural much like I did for the school board.

So here you go. Hope you like it. 🙂

398th Balloon Sculpture, Sam Cremeen’s Motorcycle in Blue

Standard

I made Sam Cremeen’s style motorcycle again, this time in blue and gray.

His tutorial for it can be purchased here for $15.00, http://www.balloon-animals.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=70&osCsid=e23f3b0364ac0ef0bf6b9de597390d3e.

He does an excellent job instructing and he is super likable, so you will enjoy learning from his tutorial.

395th, 396th and 397nth Balloon Sculptures, Homer, Bart, and Donut Centerpiece

Standard

So today is my birthday and what better way to celebrate it than by making cool balloons for my kiddo’s school for a Donuts for Dads event they had there today? When I thought about donuts and dads, Homer Simpson immediately came to my mind and I thought to myself, I have to make Homer and Bart for this event, lol. 🙂

I am on the PTA and I love being a part of the school and being of help there. The people there are just so awesome and I just love them and how they care so much and do such a great job.

I made an over 6 ft tall Homer Simpson along with a big Bart complete with Skateboard and I even threw in a Donut Centerpiece.

This was quite a challenge. These are tricky characters to translate into balloon form and I think I did a pretty good job. It definitely grew my problem solving skills. These are original Patricia Balloona balloonification of Simpsons designs. 🙂

I ran out of yellow 646’s otherwise I would have used them for Homer arms. That was a bummer but overall I am quite pleased with everything.

I did lots of stuff I had never done before and was just going with it and problem solving as I went and I just played around a lot and it was an iterative process.

They were a huge hit at the event so that felt good and they withstood a storm of kids touching and messing with them, lol.

Pictures of my work below. Hope you like it and if you don’t then you can, “Eat My Shorts” ,lol. 😉
